I booked a role in a show with f***in’ GHOSTDOG! Hell yeah! I’m going back in time to the early 60’s as a cop in Harlem, the center of the civil rights movement. Luminaries such as MALCOLM X are alive and well in this show. I cannot wait to to see how this comes out. In America today, with a President stoking racism and idiocy in his constituents, bravo to EPIX for setting GODFATHER OF HARLEM in a poignant time of American history when civil rights and equal rights for all was a battle worth fighting for.
Godfather of Harlem is inspired by the story of infamous crime boss Bumpy Johnson (Whitaker), who in the early 1960s returned from 10 years in prison to find the neighborhood he once ruled in shambles. With the streets controlled by the Italian mob, Bumpy must take on the Genovese crime family to regain control. During the brutal battle, he forms an alliance with radical preacher Malcolm X (Thatch) – catching Malcolm’s political rise in the crosshairs of social upheaval and a mob war that threatens to tear the city apart.
